Webinar Outline

Preface: For those who are new to the music notation of Gregorian Chant, there will be a brief handout to study beforehand:
“The Few Quirky Things to know about Gregorian Chant Notation so you can be reading it in no time!”

Session 1:  “The Rules of Style”

  • The Solesmes Method’s general guidelines for singing Chant, so you can be performing it Beautifully & Prayerfully sooner rather than later
  • Gives freedom to your expression, while preventing it from becoming too overwrought
  • unites the expression of all the singers in a group

Session 2: Sight-Singing

  • How to easily develop the habit & flexibility necessary to sing Chant REALLY well!
  • Sight-Singing is LITERALLY the ability to sing written music without having heard the melody before or having an instrument (or other singer) help you
  • in other words, YOU ARE AN INDEPENDENT SINGER.  AND YES, THIS CAN BE LEARNED!
  • The consequences of sight-reading’s neglect and the rewards of its practice
  • Ways to begin practicing sight-reading

Session 3: Letting the Music Form Your Prayer

  • How you can use the melodies of Gregorian chant as commentary on the text
  • Uniting the words and the music in your prayer

Whether you are new to Gregorian Chant or you have been singing it for years, anyone will have something to gain from this series!  If you are already singing the Chant, these sessions will give you the opportunity to take your Chant-singing to the next level!  And if you are making your first step into the Chant, putting these 3 sessions into practice can get you on your feet to sing musical, prayerful renditions of the Chant RIGHT AWAY, whether by yourself or in a group!
